For Jack and any inquisitors: Monte's XLT Bushwhack Program.

November 30, 2019 02:48AM avatar
Jack, I was cleaning up my computer a few days ago and deleted my Bushwhack program settings. Made me a little slow getting you answer here. Note that I adjust the Tone ID last. That way when the program is Saved and you open it up to use it, if you want to turn Tone ID Off you just hit the Arrow Key and it calls up the last entry made.

I've owned 34 XLT's and the Audio Threshold can vary unit to unit. '6' was the most often used setting, but sometimes a 'proper' slight audio Threshold was '4' and a few times as high as '8', '10' or even '12' on one unit. Adjust yours to be a comfortable, 'proper' slight audio hum.

The XLT was an interesting design and came at a time when we started to see many, perhaps too many, adjustment functions and some were not needed ... or wanted! For example, on every one that I owned I found a Recovery Speed of '20' to work the best in all hunting environments. Change it a little either up or down and you'll usually notice some bad behavior and end up with a terrible audio

I don't tinker with individual Disc. Edit adjustment. It's much easier to just use Block Edit an start at the bottom-end or top-end and adjust as indicated.

Oh, and when it comes to search coils for the XLT, I seldom use the standard 950, and I also don't sweep very fast. I use a 'comfortable' sweep speed that's moderate and not too fast or too slow. In more open areas, such as parks and schools and private lawns, etc., I like the 8" Concentric coil. When I am working any place that is just a little too trashy for the 8" or standard 950 coils, then I am pleased I have my 6½" coil along.

If you, or anyone, has some specific questions regarding the XLT or my programs, you're welcome to send me a PM or e-mail.

Happy Hunting!

Monte
