MX-7, MX-5 and MXT Pro as well as search coils used.

I like the MXT Pro over the MX7, and I would also include the MX5 as one of the best detectors Whites ever made.

Jim, trust me, I know what you're saying. It's just that we all have certain likes and dislikes which is why we can all enjoy using such a wide assortment of detectors. Of those three models, I also like them all, but for me and my wants and needs I have my favorites. back in 2015, after I got my Nokta FPORS CoRe and started thinning out most of my detectors (only hanging on to my favorite Tesoro's and modified White's IDX Pro) the last to go was the MX-5 w/6½" Concentric coil. I had better tools for the Relic Hunting needs dealing with dense iron debris, but for urban Coin Hunting, the MX-5, and a Teknetics Omega 8000, were actually the lest two 'current' detectors that were working well for Coin & Jewelry Hunting.

I preferred my MX-5 over the MXT Pro at the time, But with the coming of the MX-7 I felt they improved on several things over the MX-5. That was providing a 'Track Lock' for the Ground balance, locating the headphone Jack from the wrong-side of the control housing to the rear of the battery & speaker housing, and incorporating some method to control the Iron Range Audio Volume. It does some thing better, in my opinion over the MX-5, but I will agree that it doesn't do everything better

In my opinion Whites made a huge mistake when they used the 9.5” donut coil instead of the 9” spider coil on the MX7. The MX7 with the 9.5 coil is very nose heavy and not fun to swing after a while. That is the main reason I got rid of mine. I still have my MXT Pro and MX5.

Among many things going wrong down in Sweet Home includes some of the dumb moves they've made regarding search coils. In 2013 they changed the MXT Pro to MXT All-Pro by simply adding an 'All' sticker to the side decals, and changing from the 950 Concentric to the 10" D2 DD. That was plain old dumb as it was a heavier coil and didn't work well, when it worked at all. But, when 'introducing' the MXT All-Pro they included a free 9" Spider Concentric coil. That was a smart move and, in my opinion, should have been the standard coil and not the 10" DD or 950 open-center Concentric.

They later introduced the MX-5 without a Track-Lock option, which wasn't smart, but they did so using that really nice open-frame 9" Concentric, and that was a smart move. But after they fixed the glitches in the MX Sport circuitry and used that to bring out the really good land-based MX-7, they didn't use the nice 9" open-frame coil, but instead used that terrible 950 again. Can't they figure out the difference between a smart move and a dumb move?

I never used the 950 on an MX-7, and only now-and-then on an MXT Pro, but that's due to the very dense trash I typically deal with and the 6½" Concentric coils are what stay mounted on most of the White's models I like to use. Seldom anything else.

I will include the MX-5 with the MXT Pro and MX-7 as well as the wonderful XL Pro and the Classic ID and IDX Pro, as being some of the best models White's has brought out in the past 22 years.
