Bassackward?

Is an 8" dime any trouble for the newer crop of detectors? No. I dug 8-9" coins frequently with my old CZ-6a, again with my Explorer XS and e-trac and with my newer 800 as well. As I spend more time with the Deus, I am finding that it too excels at depth.

I guess that the newer detectors as often lighter than many of the older, now discontinued models. That's something anyway that is getting more important as I get older.

But when you compare today's plastic housings and digital meters with detectors like the Whites XL Pro with the rugged metal housing, beautifully painted in gloss black with settings for each knob or switch carefully stenciled on the case, they don't quite compare. Despite all their technological wizardry, the plastic just seems less than. . . Less than it should be. These older detectors represented the care and pride that each company had for their products That big analog meter and the sweeping needle as it moved across the display is incredibly accurate in both ID and depth. They were, and still are, a joy to use. There is a pleasant solidness, a toughness, to these old machines that gives you confidence.
