The 'Best' model? Other than basic things, there were only two 'models.'

The XLT had the decal change when it went from the Spectrum XLT to the XLT e-series, and it also had the change from the unrepeatable thin-profile original 950 coil to the little bit thicker-size and repairable 950. Those were just outside cosmetic changes to the same unit. Internally there were little things that came up but they weren't an engineer-effort to make a change in the performance. Like some of the components for the display back-light became unavailable and what they went to meant the display wouldn't get as bright as the original XLT offered.

So, other than changing the appearance, there really was only the XLT version 1.0 and Version 1.1. The 1.0 was kind of short-lived when they mad some program tweaks to satisfy consumers. All the rest of the XLT's are a Version 1.1.

They never changed the stock programs on the main production unit so the real difference folks will see is with their own Custom Settings. The real trick is finding and buying a really choice-condition specimen, then attaching the best coil for the sites chosen and type of hunting you do, and mastering a 'proper' functional sweep speed to methodically work a site.

Funny. I thought the same thing on my first read, but would have said the Rich model. N/T
