Re: Kinda fun to keep it simple

Hi Brian,
Thanks, it was a blast and next time I am going out old school I will try Monte's XLT, a unit I could have had as my first detector in the late 90's but was fool enough to buy a Garrett GTI 2500 insteadthinking probably because I was reading the Garrett publication "Modern Metal Detectors" at the time.
Looking at the available information, I was intimidated by the "complexity" of the XLT and its programable functions, a bad move on my part as the GTI proved to be an exercise in frustration. It just wouldn't work with the imaging coil anywhere but on mild turf environments, everyhere else it went into a horrible machinegun overload. That actually led to my first contact with Monte, "a humble plea for help from the great white North" from Findmall. Monte was kind enough to respond and I learned a lot from one email smiling smiley.
I sure wish I had the benefit of a mentor to hunt with and learn from in my early days detecting as I have blundered my way along through trial and error from day one in the field, I am sure it would have shortened my learning curve to say the least. If we are ever to hunt together I will make sure to bring my V3i along for hopefully a crash course in its operation.
I have to say that the old swinging needle analog meter is incredibly accurate both on its target ID, and depth on coins, no reading between the lines or interpretation, works a treat on Canadian clad too, needle swings but strong repeatable signal, coin ID to iron, exactly what is under the coilWhite's Electronics.
Cheers,
Drew.

"Keep it simple." ... "Slow and methodical."
