One of the many little signs a company was trending in the wrong direction ... down-hill, by ignoring any improvements or enhancements of a very solid, reliable performing detector and the powers-that-be decided to drop in in favor of the terrible-performing Prism series they came out with.
Hombre: I have found lots of silver coins and a few gold rings with my IDX Proe ...
I agree with you on the results of using both the Classic ID and IDX Pro TID models, especially the modified versions which I favored. They come very close to the performance I got / get from my favorite Tesoro models, and it was about the best competition for them any manufacturer came up with back in the '90s. They couldn't do it in-house and fortunately for us avid detecting consumers they had a Coinmaster Classic circuitry deigned for them by Wm. 'Bill' Lahr.
I used to keep a Blue Max 350 mounted on a modified Classic III SL for tight, rubble or brushy conditions, but 95% of the time a 6½" Concentric was mounted on a modified Classic ID or IDX Pro. While my Tesoro's were used most of the time in the ghost town and homestead type locations, the Classic ID & IDX Pro saw very regular duty in my urban Coin Hunting environments. Not just parks and yards and schools, but in most of the vacant lots, renovation sites and similar places.
I credit them for working well and finding a lot of coins, many silver or just older-dated, as well as good silver and gold jewelry. For almost fifty years now, since late '71 and into '72, I have explained to inquisitive folks that I like to select and use detectors that are 'simple' and 'functional' and provide me with needed 'performance' for the tasks I take on. I have always stated that and still do. That's why the detectors in my Outfit all fit those three requirements. And I don't have a problem listening to a good-quality single-tone audio response, either.
'zincoln' kind of started with the M6 which is a single-tone detector (unless you toggle to the annoying 7-Tone function) and I am sure he can remember back to those earlier times. The he got the V3i and has listed to its multiple tone response, and then the MX Sport that gives him several audio response options. He's only owned the modified IDX Pro a couple of months, but has made some noteworthy recoveries ... from his first outing it to this past weekend and a few hunt between them. He's a patient learner so maybe, just maybe, he's going to come around to appreciating the use of the proven, reliable, and nice-performing single-tone Classic ID/IDX Pro models? Great to have in a detector team.
