Monte,
I'm betting IF he could wind back time, zincoln isn't going to throw back the seated quarter and large cent found with the V3i in hopes that he could repeat the hunt with the IDX Pro and MAYBE turn up a gold coin. . Brings to mind the old saying, "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush."
Just to stir the pot a bit here, who's to say he'd do 'better' with the IDX Pro over the V3i ? Just perhaps the V3i is the better choice of those two detectors. Zincoln has certainly demonstrated
with finds that his V3i is more than a match for ANY detector out there, in any ghost town.
This has brought to my mind the likelyhood that the tests we perform to measure a detectors ability to perform in these areas is well short of what it should be. There are things we should be measuring that we aren't.
What are we missing here?
One thought occurred to me, I think we undervalue how we interface with a detector; the audio and visual and ergonomic interaction between detector and user.
interested to read others' thoughts.

Now, I am not a V3i fan, but since I have and enjoy the MX-7, it's circuitry is in your waterproofed MX Sport and I know that would be the unit I would have preferred to use instead of the V3i. But I was left wondering .... How would 'Chief Half-Eagle have done with the mighty modified IDX Pro in-hand instead of the V3i? Would it have sniffed out another gold coin instead of a Large Cent? Humm, I wonder. With four White's detectors in your arsenal, you have certainly been proving how well they can work for you this year.
With all those western Oregon wildfires, wouldn't it be something if some hot embers torched C C Park's hillsides? Avoid all the houses and such, and only toast off all the brush. Wouldn't that provide some fresh hunting territory for you! I'd even make a few day trip over if that happened. Might, or might not, be another Large Cent there, but your odds to chance upon a Seated Liberty Half would be good.
Keep those good White's hard at work. I have my two White's as well as my two Tesoro's, so 4 of the 10 detectors in my 'team' are from defunct manufacturers ... but I like them, they work well, and I'm sure you feel the same about your detector group.
