Monte,
I'm betting IF he could wind back time, zincoln isn't going to throw back the seated quarter and large cent found with the V3i in hopes that he could repeat the hunt with the IDX Pro and MAYBE turn up a gold coin.
There's no doubt in my mind the modified IDX Pro would have hit those targets quite well.

Just to stir the pot a bit here, who's to say he'd do 'better' with the IDX Pro over the V3i ? Just perhaps the V3i is the better choice of those two detectors. Zincoln has certainly demonstrated with finds that his V3i is more than a match for ANY detector out there, in any ghost town.
The V3i,
for Brian, isn't necessarily 'better,' it is just another 'fun' detector to use that Brian enjoys. What was in Brian's hand when he found that really nice, triangle-shaped Trade Token in Rippville where Gregg and I and almost everyone else hunts around Phil's Place? Oh, and the V3i might have been taking a nap when that same IDX Pro was in-use and rewarded Chief Half-Eagle with that $5 Gold Coin to being him a new title I use.

This has brought to my mind the likelyhood that the tests we perform to measure a detectors ability to perform in these areas is well short of what it should be. There are things we should be measuring that we aren't.
What are we missing here?
One thought occurred to me, I think we undervalue how we interface with a detector; the audio and visual and ergonomic interaction between detector and user.
There isn't a 'test' per se for a user's ability. Something that can't really be 'tested' but in the end,
all of us need to
like a detector we use,
trust our abilities and skills to use it, and simply
have 'fun' and enjoy our detector's of choice.
I'm pleased he likes the V3i and enjoys using it because he finds stuff with it. He sure is having a great year with his White's detectors, that's for sure.
