You didn't ask for second opinion, but here it is.

Joel,

I'm not looking to start an argument, but i think varying perspectives are valuable.

I have well over 200 hrs on my MX Sport w/ the 7" Detec DD. Over 20 hour w/ the 6" concentric. Likely many more hours than i suggested on both. I'm typically running the Coin/Jewelry program with a 7 gain, accepting targets to -10 or -20, and iron audio silent. Why the big disparity in coil time?

Well, i tested them both on in ground target - coins and gold as well as the nail board. The 7" DD outperforms on the nail board - more solid hits - 7 ish. It hits targets with meaningfully more depth. It has slightly more coverage. It's VDI's may not be perfect at depth, but i found them to often be more accurate on the nail board, compared to the concentric, considering the iron impacts. That ounce of gold i found last year....most of it with the 7" DD. I tried the concentric, but just was not getting the same inground result on small gold. One can argue it was because i didn't put 200 hours on the concentric, or i didn't get the coil over the target. I have a different opinion.

I did see that Monte referenced the silver stack test. Haven't done that... and am not likely to. Why, because its very unlikely I'll happen upon that exact spill scenario compared to the hundreds of other scenarios i will encounter. Will i miss one.....it's possible. But i do know what i may be missing if I'm using the 6" concentric in favor or the 7" DD.

So, I think the 7" DD is a fine coil for everything i do. I did run the concentric the other day because i didn't want to catch up on stubble and brush. I posted a pretty good selection of finds, including a half dollar. Sure, it works...and it had a purpose on that day.

BTW - i think the 4x6DD is also FANTASTIC. Outperforms the 5.3 concentric on my V3i setups which are very, very similar for both. Have done a lot of nail board testing w/ both. 8-8 with the 4x6. I have several hundred hours on both of them....but if you make me pick one in a ghost town, i'm using the 4x6 because my testing and infield experience say I get better results. The 5.3 goes bit deeper in terms of coverage at depth, but in the ghost town, i don't care. 4" is enough for both in most circumstances.

I'm at the point where i've done enough testing. No real interest in going back and checking nuances and slight alterations. If someone were to show where i have a setting adjustment that could flip/flop the results in a meaningful way, i'd certainly listen....but i don't expect it after many, many tests over the last 7 years.

My point is, i think much of this comes down to what you measure/test against, and personal preferences. I couldn't care less which one i swing...so long as I'm maximizing my opportunity...and that is what i do.

Just one mans opinion. Best to you.

Happy Hunting.
