Thought it was a ho-hum day until i cleaned my finds!

Well, i didn't expect to write much today. I went out in search of silver #20 for the year, a big number for me. No such luck. Was swinging my V3i w/ the 6x8 SEF. Did some testing, and it was a bit deeper than the 7" round detech, and i wanted to swing above the ivy and get as much depth as possible w/ a smaller coil.

I did find an early wheat and 2 IHP's, but more on that later.

Picked up an interesting pocket watch tin - either they came in them, or they were parts? Either way, someone turned it into a salt shaker. Kinda neat. Waltham Watch.

Also a neat vintage breath mints tin - French Violets breath perfume.

Did pick up a nice pair of Ray Bands in the ivy...anyone look good in Clubmasters?

Added another old dog tag, 1954 Multnomah County.

Then, i had a heart stopper. Kicked a signal from just below the surface, and it was the top of an old coin purse - leather was gone. I immediately started to get giddy. Ran the coil over the area and got a high 90's down about 5 inches - oh heck yeah! Gotta be a spill w/ this VDI. As i dug down, the pinpointer hit on the side of the hole. Out popped a quarter that was veritical....huh, not bright. Gotta be silver though. NO - 1982. So, either random luck that the coin purse clasps were on top of a modern quarter....or some hilarious MDer that came before me thought it'd be fun to bait someone and then have them dig up a modern quarter. Needless to say, that balloon popped!

Now earlier in the day i had dug two IHPs. I had gone to an area i had not been before and found some evidence of lead pipe, and some copper wire.....had to be from the early days of the parks water source. So, i started working all around and up the canyon. Near the top of the canyon, i had two solid mid 50's that both turned out to be IHPs about 20 feet apart. Nice. They were well concreted, so no dates to be had.

So, i get home and put them in the peroxide bath several times. First one comes out 1880 - cool! Pretty early over here...and my earliest IHC on this side of the state. The next was 1903.......uh, waiiiit. 1908. My year has been full of white whales and bucket listers.....so why not, rightwinking smiley I rolled it over and grabbed the magnifier. And...........there was that little s. Wow, seriously? I don't think i'll find a thing next year as i've used up all my luck. It would be nearly uncirculated if not for being in the dirt. Even some bronze showing through after the bath. Full LIBERTY easily read. Pretty darn cool. Guess i can consider that a trade up over the silver i was after!!

Anywho, best of luck to you all and hope the winter isn't too long and frigid for those in the mountain states or eastside.
